Data Handling

Last updated: June 2026

This page lays out exactly what happens to your data on Project Y — what's stored, how long it's kept, and what you can do about it at any time. For the full legal language, see the Privacy Policy.

What's stored

Account
Email, login credentials, and your connected API keys (used only to make requests on your behalf — never used for anything else).
Companions
Companion cards, appearance data, personality, backstory, and any custom fields you've filled in.
Conversations
Full chat history with each companion, including any images generated or sent within a chat.
Memory
Facts and episode summaries extracted automatically from your conversations, used to help companions remember you over time. Fully visible and editable on the memory page.
Personas
Any personas you've created to represent yourself in chat.

Retention timeline

SituationWhat happens
Actively using your accountEverything is retained normally
1 year of no activityYour account and all associated data is automatically and permanently deleted
You manually delete somethingRemoved immediately and permanently — no recovery window
You delete your accountAll data removed immediately and permanently

Your controls

You don't have to wait for the retention window. At any time, from your account settings, you can:

Deletion on Project Y is real deletion. Once something is removed, it's gone — there's no soft-delete, no 30-day grace period, no hidden backup copy sitting around waiting to be restored.

Third-party providers

When you send a message or generate an image, that request goes directly to whatever LLM or image provider you've personally connected (your own API key, your own account with them). That provider receives whatever you send them and is governed by their own data practices, not Project Y's. We don't see, log, or store a separate copy of what they return beyond what's saved in your own chat history.

Questions

If you want help with an export, a deletion, or just have a question about any of this, reach out through the Project Y Discord or support channels.
